Battle of the Bulge
Hotton and its surroundings played an important role during the Battle of the Bulge, when the German troops (116 Panzer Division ('Der Windhund'), 560 Volksgrenadier Division) reached the westernmost point of their advance here. They were held up by, among others, 84th US Infantry Division "Railsplitters". After the relief of the nearby village of Verdenne (December 24–28, 1944), the spearheads of the German attack were pushed back. More than 600 war dead from this war are buried in the Hotton War Cemetery.
